Is River Island still Relevant?
The next and final instalment of my blog is on River Island. This is a shop that I no longer hear people greatly talk about, so I decided to have a look for myself. There are 2 of these stores in town but I will be focusing on the one located on Argyle Street as it is bigger and more noticeable.
In case you have missed them, my previous blogs have been H&M, Urban Outfitters, Primark and Tk Maxx so feel free to check them out and find out where to get your discounts!
Opening times of River Island Argyle Street-
Mon- Wed- 9am- 5.30pm
Thurs- Sat- 9am- 6pm
River Island has a bold white sign and a large window display which ensures consumers are drawn into the shop. It is also directly across from Argyle Street train station so is eye-catching and convenient for anyone getting off the train. Ideal! They mainly sell clothing items; however, they also stock a great deal of jewellery and shoes. Their clothing runs from sizes 6-18 which is somewhat inclusive, however it would be a better range if they started from a 4 and went into the 20s. In saying this, almost every size they offer was available in store as they have a very organised layout- making it easy to find all items. When in store I also noticed a sign stating “we want our clothes back” which promotes sustainability by taking individuals old clothes and giving them a new home. This is a great way for River Island to be environmentally conscious and a scheme that not many people know about!
Discounts
Value for Money
As mentioned before, the discounts within this store are of a good standard. However, I feel that some of their products are on the pricey side. For example, most jumpers are around the £40 mark and although they are of a good quality, you can get the same quality in many other stores for a lot cheaper than this. Thus, I feel they should price their products slightly cheaper to keep in line with competitors and to stay relevant within the High Street.
Rating
Overall, I would rate River Island a 5/10
It is well organised and easy to find sizes, as well as having some good discounts. However, there isn’t the best range of sizes sold and the products are rather pricey for simple hoodies etc.
Thank you so much for supporting my blog over the past weeks, I greatly appreciate it!
I hope I've given you some valuable information about your classic High Street stores in Glasgow <3
