Is there actually good stock in Tk Maxx?

Known for resembling a rummage sale, my next blog is on Tk Maxx. This is a shop that will have different stock almost every time you visit. However, there are some consistencies which I will be diving into today.

Similar to my previous blog on Primark, there are also two Tk Maxx’s in Glasgow’s City Centre. I will be primarily discussing the one situated on Argyle Street as this would be my chosen shop to visit.

The shop itself, products, and availability

The vibe of this shop isn’t completely welcoming, it seems unstructured and doesn’t have the best inclusive feeling. However, this can work for Tk Maxx as due to everyone rummaging about, it simply couldn’t be structured any other way. On the front of the shop window, it states, “big labels small prices” and upon a great deal of looking I would say this is in fact true. They sell a range of clothes, accessories, shoes, jewellery, and random objects from all different brands. Some of these brands are other clothes shops eg. zara and some are designer. For being a somewhat unorganised store, they do have sections which are clearly marked as there is so much stock in them. This includes a big jacket section- perfect for these winter seasons! The availability correlates well with the store- hectic. Most items only have 1 or 2 sizes however, the racks of clothing have sections from XS- XXL (both men and women). Thus, there is something for everyone!

Discounts

Tk Maxx do not have an in-store student discount which is a let-down. However, as previously mentioned, you can get big, labelled items at a low cost. For example,
I noticed a Michael Kors jacket which is a very high brow brand. The jacket originally retailed for $329 (£287.26) but Tk Maxx were selling it for £89.99. There are many more great deals like this if you just have a good look about. Thus, generally they don’t do any gimmicks or sales, but every day is exciting with what prices they have their merchandise set at. Therefore, this is the place to visit if you have your eye on an expensive piece somewhere else as you never know, Tk Maxx might sell it for cheaper!

Value for Money

The value for money in Tk Maxx is one of the best with them selling these credible names at their low prices. This is a given as even though they have lowered the prices, it is the same high-quality products you are getting. However, some products they sell like jumpers are just everyday brand names and are sold for slightly dearer than they should be in my opinion. Therefore, I feel Tk Maxx shouldn’t get too caught up with the fact they sell well known brands and remember some things must be cheap to keep in line with shops like Primark. They also sell makeup and I feel this is where the value for money mainly lacks. Brands are sold like Kiko and Mac and although they are discounted it is often not worth purchasing them. This is due to them being stored in big boxes- breaking half of the stock. Thus, although you are paying a cheaper price, you are receiving a broken item eg. lipstick.

Rating

Overall, I will rate Tk Maxx a 6/10.

It is hard to rate such an everchanging store as one day you may walk in and get loads of deals and the next you might find nothing. Nevertheless, I feel the stock is good enough most of the time and caters for everyone’s tastes.
