H&M- Hit or Miss?
Hello and welcome to my first blog post! As mentioned in the about me section, I will be reviewing High Street stores and evaluating the value for money of their products. Additionally, I will be informing you all of discounts which are offered so everyone can get their hands on a deal! First up is H&M.
H&M in Glasgow is located centrally on Buchanan Street.
Opening times-
Mon- Sat: 9am – 8pm
Sun: 10am – 7pm
The building is very large and made of glass, which makes it very eye-catching for any pedestrians. Therefore, I thought this shop would make a great first blog post as it stands out on the High Street.
Products and Availability
This shop predominantly sells clothes; however, you can also find a range of jewellery, makeup, and accessories. H&M is very inclusive with their sizing and offer sizes 4-34 in their clothing (XS- 4XL). In saying this, on visiting the shop I failed to identify any accessible items above a size 22 so this could be something to work on. Their style of clothing provides something for everyone, whether it be big jumpers and baggy jeans or tight dresses and crop tops- everyone’s catered for. In terms of jewellery- silver, gold and coloured is all provided along with all shades of makeup, making this an easy place for everyone to shop.
Discounts
Now for the main part- discounts! I visited the store on 03/10/22 and immediately noticed repetitive signs around the shops stating 20% off for students. On a closer observation the small print stated that you had to spend more than £30 for this to be valid. Luckily, I was purchasing jeans and a top, so I was over this price and managed to get £10 off my purchase. This was a great help, especially with the money strains which comes with being a student!
The advertisements around the shop for this discount were very effective and noticeable, encouraging customers to buy slightly dearer and more durable products to qualify for the deal. However, many individuals may miss the small print and face disappointment at the checkouts. Thus, H&M should make it clearer that a certain amount must be spent.
Furthermore, for those non-students, a rewards scheme is offered within H&M in which points are collected. Your unique barcode simply gets scanned at the tills, giving a certain number of points each time, based on what you buy. These then add up and can provide you with surprise discounts at the till. For example, my barcode was scanned at tills, and I was informed that I was eligible for 10% off. This was a very nice surprise.
As you can see from the image, I am 4 points away from getting my next bonus voucher. Thus, visiting the store and spending money can be viewed more positively, knowing you're getting something out of it.
Value for Money
It’s all well and good paying low prices, but if the quality doesn’t match then it’s not worth it. However, I think H&M price match their products accordingly, with the discounts making the value for money even better. Last winter, I bought a jacket from H&M for £34.99 which can seem expensive during the seasonal times of the year. Nevertheless, it has been so durable, and I am continuing to wear it through this year too. This is just one example of the high-quality products provided by H&M.
Rating
Overall, I will rate this shop an 8.5/10.
This is because, although the experience of shopping in H&M is always good in regard to the shop itself, the prices, and the stock provided, more sizes should be accessible. Additionally, the discounts should be clearer in the way they convey the terms and conditions. However, I would highly recommend this store if you’re looking for good quality and great discounts all year round!
Thank you for reading my blog, stay tuned for next week where I will be reviewing a very common student store!
Any feedback and comments would be greatly appreciated ;)
